I have had the distinct privilege of working with Mr. Nick Brightwell in a number of classes that I have taught over the past few years, and whose academic endeavors consistently proved to be inventive and original.
I want to underline that I have been involved with higher education since 1970, and that Mr. Brightwell stands out as an exceptionally motivated and inspired student of music.
I have attended many recitals that Nick has performed, and with much respectfully report that his virtuosity as a guitarist is exceptional. He fully executes advanced technique in many categories of music for guitar; however, it is not technical expertise alone that qualifies him as an accomplished player. It is also his musical sensibility that contributes elegant vision to his technique.
In essence, he understands the pedagory of guitar from a sophisticated perspective and performs from an artistic perspective that is remarkable. Along with his ability on the instrument, comes an intellectual understanding of music history and literature and it is in classes concerning this pedagogy, that I specifically instruct, that I also find his abilities as a university student to exceed expectations.
